Hearing His Will

So the first step of the but if not concept is coming to terms with the fact that things are not as you thought they would be and deciding to follow Christ regardless.
The second step is determining how to know what He would have you to do instead. This can be challenging and you are still dealing with the loss of something desired or loved. This can make hearing the spirit difficult. This has been on my mind after watching the LDS vid on Forgiveness. This is a pretty powerful video where Chris Williams discusses losing his wife and children in a car accident and the process of forgiving the drunk driver who took their lives. He certainly experienced something he had not desired or wanted but has chosen to follow Christ through the process. It makes me think of the 17 year-old driver who caused the accident. I find myself wondering how he is doing. Surely, he never would have taken part in the events that led to that night had he known the outcome. And now that it has happened, how can he turn this into a but if not time. I think the key is turning to the Savior and asking what He desires us to do now that life is not as we thought it would be. Then listening and following through with His will. This makes learning to hear His word paramount. It also means reducing distractions. I find that I will try to create distractions at the times I most need to speak and listen to my Father. It's my version of running away from home, I guess. So maybe that will be another blog for another time...

  1. Lizzie, Thanks for your post. Exactly what I needed to hear right now. I also find, that when I should turn to Him and Him alone, I am frustrated that I can't turn to other people instead. How hard it is for us to come home and be embraced.
